Born in Detroit, Kiel — who stood at nearly 7 feet 2 inches tall due to a hormonal condition —began acting in the early 1960s. He went on to portray the steel-toothed Jaws in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979), and also made appearances in several James Bond-themed video games. His other television and film credits include The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Happy Gilmore as Adam Sandler's boss Mr. Larson.
In 2002, Kiel published an autobiography, Making It Big in the Movies.
