Ratings: Hannibal Opens OK; The Office, Community Hit Lows

Hannibal didn't take a bite out of the competition Thursday, but it did give NBC some life.

Bryan Fuller's prequel adaptation of Thomas Harris' novels premiered to 4.3 million viewers and a 1.6 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic. Though obviously low, the numbers are NBC's best in the once-revered Thursdays-at-10 slot since March 15 last year. Hannibal was also up from Rock Center's and Do No Harm's performances in the slot this season, both of which averaged a 0.9 rating. Compared to Awake's debut in the time period last year, Hannibal was down 2 million viewers and four-tenths.

Hannibal also improved on lead-in Go On (2.4 million, 1.1), which dropped a full point in its Voice-less Thursday debut. The Office (3.4 million, 1.7) and Community (2.4 million, 1.0) hit series lows, while Parks and Recreation(2.9 million, 1.5) dropped a tenth.CBS won the night, led by The Big Bang Theory (16.8 million, 4.9).American Idol (11.3 million, 2.8) was flat. Special episodes of New Girl (4.9 million, 2.0) and The Mindy Project (3.5 million, 1.4) were down from their Tuesday performances.Grey's Anatomy (8.3 million, 2.7) dropped a tenth, while Scandal (8.1 million, 2.7) inched up a tenth.8 p.m.
