Rachel Bloom, star of the musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, won the Golden Globe for Best TV Series ActressSunday. It was a surprise win, not only because she was up against heavyweights including Julia Louis-Dreyfus - a favorite for Veep- but also Bloom's show hasn't been a ratings boon, even though critics love it.

Bloom was visibly surprised and hyperventilated just a little as she raced to the stage and gave her speech. "Oh my God!," she said, visibly flustered. "Guys! Guys! We almost didn't have a show! We got six rejections in one day and we felt like crap." But Bloom, producer Aline Brosh McKenna and CW network president Mark Pedowitz stuck with it, she said in gratitude.

The win comes just hours after Pedowitz expressed unflinching confidence in the show despite its ratings at the Television Critics Association gathering. "We believe there is a place on our schedule today for a show like this and we're going to give it a chance to get seen. You can't beat quality like this," he said.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend returns with new episodes Jan. 25 on CW.
