Pretty Little Liars' new guy Caleb has been described as a "sketchy guy with a heart of gold," but after last week's episode it seems he just may be the former. But Tyler Blackburn, who plays Caleb, says his feelings with Hanna are real.

"Unfortunately, someone like Caleb who's lived a rough life has had to — out of survival and necessity — become a bit of a sketchy guy. But he wants everything Hanna has given him. I think it's one of those things of being tempted by old ways," Blackburn tells TVGuide.com.

Pretty Little Liars' Ashley Benson: "A" makes Hanna do something horrible

After the sexual tension between the unlikely friends became too strong to ignore, Caleb and Hanna (Ashley Benson) decided to take their friendship to the next level. Just as things seemed to be working out between the two, a final scene showed Caleb on the phone with a mystery person saying, "I can't do this anymore." Blackburn says audiences will soon see what that phone call was referring to and how he became involved with the person on the other line. (Previews allude to Jenna.)

"He breaks it off with whoever is on the other line," the 24-year-old actor says. "His intentions are innocent, really, but I don't think he's proud of himself."

Will Hanna learn he was initially out to get her and will the two be able to move on from it as a couple? "Anybody who was lied to would be very upset, but at the same time Hanna has not felt like this with anybody — obviously because she felt comfortable enough to be intimate with Caleb. So it's a bit of a struggle with her," he says.

Intimate they were, but more memorable than Hanna losing her V-card was the scene where the two accidentally end up in the shower together. Blackburn describes the scene as "fun and awkward."

With only three episodes remaining in the season, Blackburn says his character (who has become a fan favorite) is sticking around until the end.

"You're going to see a little bit of a change in him and it becomes more clear on what he wants and who he is and how Hanna has changed his life," he says.

And as for the finale, Blackburn says when he and the cast read the script they said, "Oh my God." He adds, "It goes out with a big bang — jaw to the floor."

Pretty Little Liars airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC Family.
