Olympics: What to Watch on Day 3 --- Curling and Short Track Begin

Day 3 of the Winter Olympics on Monday marks the first day of competition for curling and short track speed skating. Here's what you should watch (all times ET).

Olympics: Who won the first gold medals?

All events are live-streamed at NBCOlympics.com. Monday's tape-delayed daytime coverage (3 p.m., NBC) includes speed skating and biathlon. Tape-delayed prime-time coverage (8 p.m., NBC) includes alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and short track.
Curling, men's and women's round robin
When: Men — midnight and 10 a.m. (live), women — 5 a.m. on USA (live); 3 a.m., 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on NBC Sports (tape delay), 5 p.m. on CNBC (tape delay)You know you watch this every Olympics. You can't explain it, but broom-sweeping and stone-sliding is downright riveting. Among the matchups: Two-time defending men's champ Canada will open against Germany, with 2013 world champ Sweden taking on Switzerland. On the women's side, Great Britain will face Sweden, whom they beat to win the world championships last year.

Short track, men's 1,500 meters final
When: 7:15 a.m. (live); 8 p.m. on NBC (tape delay)
The most unpredictable sport of the Games kicks off with longest individual distance. 2006 champ Viktor Ahn makes his Olympic return competing for Russia instead of his native South Korea. The Koreans, a short track powerhouse, are depleted of 1,500-meter world record holder Noh Jin-kyu, who fractured his elbow, but they can look to another favorite, Lee Han-bin. World Cup leader, Canada's Charles Hamelin, and American J.R. Celski, who took bronze in Vancouver, are also podium contenders. Heats start at 4:45 a.m.
Freestyle skiing, men's moguls final
When: 1 p.m. (live); 8 p.m. on NBC (tape delay)
You might want to put money on a Canuck. Countrymen Alexandre Bilodeau, the defending champ, and Mikael Kingsbury, the reigning world champ, have dominated the sport the past few years and split the six World Cup events this season so far. (American Patrick Deneen has been a perennial bridesmaid to them.) Bilodeau is vying to become the first freestyle skier to win multiple Olympic gold medals. Qualifications start at 9 a.m.
