The next season of Mr. Robot will probably be the last one, according to Mr. Robot himself, Christian Slater.

In an interview with Collider, Slater — who is also a producer on the USA thriller series — says that he believes the show will end with the upcoming fourth season. "[Show creator] Sam [Esmail] always said it was going to be somewhere in that zone, and he didn't want to go further than what he could creatively contribute to that storyline," he said. "So, I think that Season 4 will be it. I think they're in the writers' room, as we speak, putting it all together, but I have no idea what it's gonna be, or if I'm gonna be floating in and out of scenes. I have no idea, so we'll see what happens."

In the past, Esmail has said he envisioned the show running for four or five seasons. "Honestly, I've always said it's four or five seasons, and I've said that because I think it's somewhere in between," he told The Hollywood Reporter after the Season 3 finale last year. "Whether that means the next two seasons are two short seasons, or it could technically still be two full ten-episode seasons, we're still kind of figuring that out. It's something the writers' room and I take very seriously. We never want to feel like we're treading water. Hopefully it fits into two more seasons, but we're trying to figure out that number."

Is Mr. Robot About Time Travel, or What?

Well, it sounds like that decision has now been made, and it'll take four seasons to wrap up the story of hacker Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) and his attempts to liberate America from capitalism.

It's also important to note that Season 4 of Mr. Robot is taking longer than usual because Esmail has been working on Homecoming, starring Julia Roberts, for Amazon. He has a lot of other projects in various stages of development, too, so he may be ready to move on from Mr. Robot. And with declining ratings and a lack of non-technical awards attention, USA might be ready to power Mr. Robot down as well.
