McCain and Ellen Spar Over Gay Marriage

John McCain made a visit to Thursday's Ellen show, during which he made it clear that he's against gay marriage — even hers. DeGeneres announced last week her plans to marry her girlfriend, Portia de Rossi, following a new California law allowing gay unions. Diving into what Ellen termed "the elephant in the room," McCain said — in a decidedly understated voice — "I just believe in the unique status of marriage between man and woman." DeGeneres responded, "It just feels like there is this old way of thinking that we are not all the same. We are all the same people, all of us. You're no different than I am. Our love is the same." As the audience cheered, McCain said, "We just have a disagreement. I, along with many, many others, wish you every happiness." Ellen replied, "So you'll walk me down the aisle?"
