Martin Sheen on Charlie: Addiction Is a Form of Cancer

Martin Sheen says he's praying for son Charlie Sheen and likens his addiction to cancer.
"He's an extraordinary man," Martin told Sky News. "You know, if he had cancer, how would we treat him? The disease of addiction is a form of cancer, and you have to have an equal measure of concern and love and lift them up and so that's what we do for him."

Charlie Sheen blames Two and a Half Men execs for production halt

Charlie has been in rehab for the past month, forcing CBS to place Two and a Half Men on hiatus. The sitcom is set to resume production on Monday. The actor said last week that he is now 100 percent clean and feels great, but admitted his sobriety has been "off-and-on" the last five years."You realize that we're not all on the same journey all the time, yet we have to love that much more," Martin said. "We have to be that much more present."

The elder Sheen is in the U.K. promoting The Way, his new film written, directed by and starring son Emilio Estevez. Estevez said he's gotten used to the public scrutiny that accompanies his brother's troubles."After 30 years, [for] me, 40 some years, you build up an immunity, I guess," he said.
