Katee Sackhoff joins CSI for a November sweeps episode as Det. Frankie Reed, a tough cop who's called in to help the CSI team when a college student ends up dead.

"She's kind of a badass," Sackhoff tells TV Guide Magazine. "One of my favorite scenes is when she says she's been working on her sensitivity, and a second later, she kicks down a door."

Producers have been trying to land Sackhoff in a guest stint for years. "I've found that things that are meant to be work themselves out when they're supposed to," says executive producer Carol Mendelsohn. "We had this idea for a great character, and the second we started talking about this new detective, we said, 'Katee!'"

Mendelsohn hopes Sackhoff's role will last for more than one episode but despite enjoying the gig, Sackhoff says it's too early to determine Detective Reed's fate. "I think everyone's hope is that's what it's going to turn into, but right now, we're trying to figure out where I fit," say says. "I like it, and I've always said, as long as the stories are fresh and fun, and I get to go to work every day and do what I love to do, I'm happy."
