Born in Chicago, Holloway began as a gospel singer. In 1976, she was signed to the label Gold Mind. The first song she released from the album Loleatta, "Worn-Out Broken Heart," reached No. 25 on R&B charts. Her hit disco song "Love Sensation" from 1980 reached No. 1 on the dance chart. The song has since been sampled numerous times, including in the 1991 hit from Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, "Good Vibrations."
