The Chicago Bears quarterback's proposal and the trip were surprises to the former star of The Hills and Laguna Beach, a source said.
The couple were first spotted together in the fall and soon after the 24-year-old Cavallari described herself as being "in love" with the 27-year-old Cutler.
"Things are really good," she said at the time. "I'm just enjoying my personal life and taking a little time away from the public eye, which is why Chicago is great for me. My mom and that whole side of the family is there. And Jay is there."
