Kate Burton Checks Back Into Grey's for Alternate Universe Episode

Kate Burton will reprise her role as Meredith Grey's mother for the upcoming alternate universe episode of Grey's Anatomy, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The episode will imagine all the ways Meredith's life would be different if her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer's before she died in Season 3, was alive and well.

Grey's Anatomy reunites Derek and Addison — in another universe

In the February episode, entitled "If/Then," Kate Walsh also returns as part of an alternate reality where Derek (Patrick Dempsey) stayed with Addison.

Burton, who has recently appeared on Grimm, The Closer and The Good Wife, was nominated for two Emmys for her role on Grey's Anatomy. She will also appear in Scandal, the upcoming ABC political drama from Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes.
