John Edwards Indicted on Charges for Allegedly Using Campaign Finances to Conceal Affair

Two-time presidential candidate John Edwards was indicted Friday on six felony counts, including conspiracy and violating campaign contribution laws, CNN reports.

Edwards pleaded not guilty in a North Carolina federal court to the six counts, which included spending more than $925,000 of campaign funds to hide his mistress, Rielle Hunter, and her pregnancy during his 2008 campaign.

"There's no question that I've done wrong," Edwards said after being released on his own recognizance. "But I did not break the law and I never, ever thought I was breaking the law."

If convicted on all counts, Edwards could face up to 30 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1.5 million.
