Former SNL Writer Joe Bodolai Dead of Apparent Suicide

Former Saturday Night Live writer Joe Bodolai has died from an apparent suicide, the Los Angeles Times reports. He was 63.
Bodolai's body was found Monday afternoon in a Los Angeles hotel room with a bottle of Gatorade and a bottle of antifreeze, the coroner's office's chief Craig Harvey said. There was no indication of foul play.

There was no suicide note in the room, but Bodolai posted a lengthy entry on his blog Friday titled "If This Were Your Last Day on Earth, What Would You Do?" Under "Things I Regret," Bodolai listed his "inability to conquer my alcoholism," that he is "no longer able to withstand any more of life's pain" and "the pain I have caused and am now causing my sons and the love of my life, my ex-wife Bianca."Bodolai listed the most items under "Things I Am Proud Of," which includes his sons, his marriage to Bianca, his work with SNL and as a producer on the Canadian sketch comedy show Kids in the Hall."I don't need replies or comments or anything. I need to feel the good that I did and whatever good I have ever done for you is enough for me," he wrote. "May you all have the happy lives you deserve. Thank you all for being in my life."

On his Facebook page, Bodolai wrote Thursday: "I'm alone this year and am volunteering serving Christmas dinner to the homeless. Perhaps I will be one, but I love all of you and if I make it to next year let's make it a morally, spiritually, better and funnier year."Bodolai worked on SNL from 1981-82 and also wrote the first draft of the Wayne's World film with Mike Myers. His other credits include After Hours and It's Only Rock and Roll.
