We might not have to say goodbye to the world of Jane the Virgin after all. A spin-off of The CW telenovela, which will air its fifth and final season in the spring, is in the works, according to Variety.

Details about the spin-off, like who it would revolve around, are scarce, but according to Variety's sources, it could be an anthology series, with each season based on a novel written by Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez). But we do know that Rodriguez will be involved, at least behind the camera (and potentially as a new narrator). She will executive-produce with Jane showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman and Jane writer Valentina Garza, who will serve as the showrunner of the spin-off. So the crew that makes you fall in love with the show every week will also be in charge of making you fall in love with the spin-off.

With the news of this potential spin-off, it looks like The CW is really trying to stay in the "recognizable property" business next season. It joins the network's Good Christian Bitches revamp and a Nancy Drew pilot from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage on the development slate.

Jane the Virgin returns for its final season in the spring of 2019.

(Full disclosure: TV Guide is owned by CBS, one of The CW's parent companies.)
