HBO Picks Up Laura Dern Comedy

HBO has picked up Laura Dern's new comedy, Enlightened, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Laura Dern to star in HBO pilot

The actress will play a self-destructive woman whose spiritual awakening inspires her to try to lead an enlightened life. Nine episodes have been ordered on top of the already produced pilot.Dern will serve as an executive producer alongside screenwriter Mike White (Freaks and Geeks), who penned the story based on an idea by the duo.

Dern and White, who finished in sixth place on The Amazing Race 14 with his father, Mel, previously worked together on his film directorial debut, 2007's Year of the Dog.
