Remembering The Brady Bunch star through her seven-decade career
Florence Henderson, best known for playing Carol Brady on the beloved '70s sitcom The Brady Bunch, died Thursday, Nov. 24 at 82. Her career started in the '50s and lasted until her death. She never retired, and lived her life on TV. Henderson was a constant presence in our homes for more than fifty years. Here are some of her most memorable TV appearances, both Brady and otherwise.
1. 1958: Patti Page Oldsmobile Show
Henderson first rose to prominence as a musical theater actress, and in often sang in her early TV appearances. Here she is singing a jingle in a live commercial for an Oldsmobile Rocket 88 from a 1958 variety show.
2. 1962: The Tonight Show
In 1962, she became the first woman to host The Tonight Show when she guest-hosted an episode in the brief period the show was host-less between Jack Paar's exit and Johnny Carson's start. Here, she recalls some of her most memorable experiences on the show.
3. 1963: Password
Henderson was a reliably fun game show guest. Here she is in a 1963 episode of guessing game Password.
4. 1969: The Brady Bunch
The part that made her a star.
5. Hollywood Squares
Many of her appearances as herself poked fun at her wholesome Brady Bunch reputation.
6. 1976: The Muppet Show
She had a great voice, even when she was duetting with Muppets.
7. 1980: Wesson Oil
She was a constant presence on TV as a cooking oil pitchwoman for 20 years. She did many other commercials, too, including Pepsi and Polident.
8. The $25,000 Pyramid
She made numerous appearances on many different incarnations of the Pyramid franchise.
9. 1985: Country Kitchen
She got back to her southern Indiana roots by hosting the Country Kitchen cooking show on TNN from 1985 to 1993.
10. 1988: A Very Brady Christmas
She participated in numerous Brady Bunch sequels and spin-offs over the years, the most successful of which was the 1988 TV movie A Very Brady Christmas.
11. 2002: Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Henderson made a memorable appearance on an episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, playing Carol Brady in an improvised sketch with Ryan Stiles as a very mannish Jan.
12. 2010: Dancing with the Stars
Henderson appeared on Season 11 of Dancing with the Stars in 201o. Partnered with Corky Ballas, she came in eighth. Her most memorable routine was her fast-paced tango to The Brady Bunch's theme song.
13. 2015: Today
Henderson started her career on Todayback in 1959 as a "Today girl." In 2015, she returned at age 81 to talk with Matt Lauer about her "friend with benefits." She was lively up until the very end.
14. 2016: Dancing With the Stars
She returned to DWTS in Season 23, supporting her TV daughter Maureen McCormick, who was a contestant on the most recent season.
