Experts are at a loss to confirm reported meanings for Suri, the name Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes chose for their daughter, who was born on Tuesday. In announcing the birth, Cruise's spokesperson claimed that Suri meant "red rose" in Farsi and "princess" in Hebrew, but an expert on the former language tells the New York Daily News that Suri "means red, like a fiery color, but there is no 'suri' that means 'red rose,' I can tell you that." An expert on Hebrew, in turn, says Suri is a nickname for Sarah, a feminine form of the word for "Lord." Cyberwonks speculate that the name is a nod to Surrey, England, the home of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Whatever the case, the poor lass ain't finding any personalized key chains at the Disney World gift shop.
