Emilia Clarke Thanks Fans for the Best Game of Thrones Gift Ever

This is how Game of Thrones fans use their powers for good

Think what you want about the Mother of Dragons, but the woman behind Daenerys Targaryen, Emilia Clarke, is sweet and incredibly appreciative of her fans raising money for her charity, SameYou. The actress took to her Instagram Thursday to gush in a new video about how she's so touched and moved by the donations, going so far as to call it the best wrap gift for Game of Thrones.

"I am one very lucky lady to have such kind, generous, shining spirited fans," Clarke captioned the post. "I couldn't think of a more beautiful way to wave goodbye to the mother of dragons [sic] than with this step towards making brain injury sufferers feel less alone."

Fans raising money for Clarke's charity started as a response to a Reddit post calling for an overhaul of Game of Thrones Season 8 (which got so big so fast it prompted the cast to speak out about it). Hoping to show those in Westeros that many fans were appreciative of the cast's work on the series, Reddit user elle_ellaria decided to start her own campaign, but instead of complaining about the season, donations would be made to SameYou.

"Ass a gesture of love and support from the fandom to the entire cast & crew - but also particularly to the woman who poured her very soul into her character, who delivered passionate speeches in High Valyrian and Dothraki in between questioning her very mortality, and inspired so many of us with her resilience - I am setting up this page as a public support of [Emilia's] charity, SameYou," elle_ellaria wrote on the fundraising page.

Clarke established SameYou earlier this year to help increase access to rehabilitation for those in need after suffering a brain injury or stroke. In March, Clarke revealed in a personal essay for The New Yorkerthat she herself had undergone major brain surgeries while filming Game of Thrones.

The fundraiser is now over 50 percent of the way to its goal of £100,000. In her Instagram post, Clarke said she can't believe this is happening, explaining, "It's extradorinaiy what you guys have done. You've given me a wrap gift... you are helping us change the world."
