Elton John Recovering From Appendix Surgery

Elton John is recovering at his home in Nice, France after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix, the BBC reports.

John, 66, underwent the procedure Thursday at Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco. He announced last month that he would be going under the knife when he was forced to cancel a series of concerts.

John posted a message on his website more than a week ago to show fans his gratitude. "I would like to thank the literally thousands of people who have sent me get well cards and messages over the past two weeks," he wrote. "Your well wishes have touched me deeply and will play a big part in my recovery. I cannot wait to see you all and thank you in person when I resume my concert schedule later this year."

John is next set to receive the inaugural Brits Icon award in September. He is also part of the lineup for the second annual iHeartRadio musical festival, which kicks off inLas Vegas Sept. 20.
