Elizabeth Vargas has checked back into rehab to treat her addiction to alcohol, People reports.

Vargas, 51, re-entered a treatment facility over the weekend while she was on vacation. "As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process," the 20/20 anchor said in a statement, as reported by People. "I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry."

Fall Preview: Get hot scoop on returning shows

Vargas and her husband, singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, have two children together. She previously spent several weeks in rehab last fall and opened up about her struggle with alcoholism in an interview with Good Morning America earlier this year.

There's no word on when Vargas will return to ABC News, where she has worked since 1996. The network said in a statement, "We look forward to having her back at ABC News when she feels ready to return."
