ABC News has hired Elizabeth Smart as a contributor, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Smart, who was kidnapped in 2002 and spent eight months in captivity before being found, will comment on missing persons cases for the network.

"She'll help our viewers better understand missing person stories from someone with the perspective to know what a family experiences when a loved one goes missing," ABC News spokesperson Julie Townsend said.

Smart, 23, is expected to begin her new duties in the next couple of weeks. It is unsure whether she'll relocate to New York City from Utah, where she's a student at Brigham Young University.
