The Early Show has hired former American Idol semifinalist Ayla Brown as a contributor, The Associated Press reports.
The 21-year-old is the daughter of Massachusetts Republican Sen. Scott Brown and a communications student at Boston College. She made it to the top 16 during Idol's fifth season.
Brown will produce pieces focused on the youth audience. "You can't create the next Katie Couric; you just have to find talent that you think can develop into something," executive producer David Friedman said.

Brown performed on The Early Show last week and recently interviewed Craig Robinson, the brother of Michelle Obama the program.
Her mother, Gail Huff, is a reporter for Boston's ABC affiliate.
