Doc Season 2: Everything to Know About Fox's Medical Drama

Don't forget about Molly Parker's Dr. Amy Larsen

Fox's Doc was enough of a hit during its 10-episode first season that it was quickly renewed for a full-length, 22-episode Season 2 — the news was announced before the Season 1 finale had even aired. Based on the Italian series Doc – Nelle tue mani, which was itself based on the life of a real Italian doctor, Doc tells the tale of a hospital's internal medicine chief, Dr. Amy Larsen (Molly Parker), who is involved in a severe car accident that causes her to forget the past eight years of her life.

That's a pretty tough situation regardless of context, but it's extra complicated here because Dr. Larsen has managed to forget some pretty major life changes — like getting divorced from her husband, who also works at the hospital, and starting a new relationship with another guy who works at the hospital. And to make matters worse, the memory loss means she's no longer qualified for her own job, so she has to essentially restart her medical career as an intern.

It's a story premise that's so incredibly ripe for compelling melodrama that it's no big surprise that Doc caught on with audiences. And with Season 1 wrapping up with a very emotionally complicated cliffhanger, fans are going to have a hard time waiting for Season 2. So let's look ahead and see what we know so far about the future of Doc on Fox.

Doc Season 2 premiere date

Doc Season 2 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on Fox. It will air on Tuesday nights following the second season of Murder in a Small Town. Head here for Fox's complete fall 2025 schedule.

There's been no indication that any major cast members are exiting the series. But two of Season 1's recurring roles are being bumped to series regulars for Season 2: Patrick Walker as Dr. TJ Coleman, an intern who had considered Dr. Larsen a sort of mentor prior to her accident, and Charlotte Fountain-Jardim as Katie Hamda, the daughter Dr. Larsen shares with her ex-husband/coworker.

The biggest news of Doc's offseason is the casting of Felicity Huffman (American Crime, Desperate Housewives). Huffman will play Dr. Larsen's med school professor and mentor, Dr. Joan Ridley. Ridley will take over as the new chief of internal medicine at Westside Hospital, the position Dr. Larsen held before her accident. Huffman's last TV role was also on Fox, on the anthology Accused.

TV veterans Barbie Kligman, who's written for Law & Order: SVUEverwoodThe Vampire DiariesPrivate Practice, and Magnum P.I., and Hank Steinberg, who created Without a Trace and The Last Ship, serve as co-showrunners on Doc.

Where Doc Season 1 left off

Season 1 of Doc wrapped up with some major plot developments. In the first season finale, Dr. Larsen discovers, finally, that Dr. Miller was actually responsible for Bill Dixon's death, and Miller is fired and his medical license revoked. And then Dr. Larsen's secret boyfriend, Dr. Heller, walks in on her as she's making out a little bit with her ex-husband, Dr. Hamda — a situation that brings no joy to either Dr. Heller or Dr. Hamda's current wife, Nora.

Potential Doc Season 2 storylines

The original Italian series may not be the best place to look for clues about Season 2 — the second season of Doc – Nell tue mani was largely focused on the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the hospital. There's basically no reason to expect the Fox version of the show to get into that, but there's still a very interesting kernel from the Italian series that Doc might try to borrow: a power struggle at the hospital that forces the amnesiac doctor to try to get his old job back as head of internal medicine.

Meanwhile, it's doubtful we've seen the last of Dr. Miller, despite his misdeeds. It could be that he'll have his own little arc in which he'll have to start his career over, like Dr. Larsen did.

Where to watch Doc

Doc Season 1 is available to stream on Hulu. New episodes of Season 2 will air Tuesdays at 9/8c on Fox and stream on Hulu the next day.
