Desperate Housewives Desperate Housewives

Welcome back to Wisteria Lane. As Desperate Housewives enters its seventh season on September 26 (9/8c, ABC), Eva Longoria Parker and Felicity Huffman promise that the show is fresher than ever, thanks to the timely arrivals of Vanessa Williams, Brian Austin Green and some baby drama for both Gabrielle and Lynette.

"We're going to get into a lot of crazy stuff," Longoria Parker told TV Guide Magazine before hosting the Padres Contra el Cancer charity gala, dedicated to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer. "You get introduced to Vanessa's character right away," she said of Williams' arrival on Sunday's season premiere.

Huffman added that Williams, who plays Lynette's recently separated college frenemy Renee, will rub her old pal/rival the wrong way immediately. "She's such a great dash of vinegar to Wisteria Lane! It's going brilliantly — she's a wonderful woman, she's really smart, she's really strong, a real team player.  She's a great addition. I'm not just saying this because I'm in it, but year seven you would think it would be sort of the seven year itch, but the writers sort of got rejuvenated and excited, and if you have happy writers you have happy actors."

Williams' character won't just be making trouble for Lynette, but crossing swords with Gabrielle as well. "We do end up butting heads," revealed Longoria Parker. "I Tweeted a picture of us fighting on set, and it's actually quite funny. She's amazing — and amazingly tall! — and she's really gorgeous and beautiful and the warmest addition to our group. And she was really nervous coming into a year-seven show with a bunch of women, and she's just melted right in."

Green's also shaking things up as a construction worker who sets Bree's heart hammering — and the actor's apparently having a similar effect on Marcia Cross off screen. "I have to say I've seen her be a little giggly on her scenes," laughed Huffman. "We've been going 'What's going on with you?' And she's like 'Oh, nothing!' There's some real chemistry there! She goes 'I get to kiss him, I get to kiss him!'  And I said 'When?' And she goes, 'I'm not telling you because I'm so nervous!'"

Also look for some potboiler plotlines to plague the show's parents. "There's a baby-swapping thing happening," said Longoria Parker. "I can tell you that it's happening with one of Gabrielle's kids, and it comes into question if one of them is actually hers." Huffman said Lynette's brand of baby drama comes from having a new infant. "I mean, she's got a new baby and that in and of itself is enough to drive everybody crazy."
