Fox announced pickups for both shows Thursday. Dance judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe first broke the news about his series via twitter. "FOX has picked up #SYTYCD for it's 9th season, it was announced today by Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox. [HOORAY]," Lythgoe wrote.

More than 6 million viewers watched Melanie Moore take the Season 8 Dance title this summer. MasterChef, from Gordon Ramsay, grabbed 6.5 million viewers for its Season 2 finale in August.
Dance's renewal comes on the heels of one of its most critically acclaimed seasons. The showreceived Emmy nominations for best reality competition program and host Cat Deeley.
No return dates have been announced, but MasterChef begins casting for Season 3 on Oct. 29 in Los Angeles.
