HBO and La La Land dominated the night
HBO was the biggest winner of the night at Sunday's Critics' Choice Awards, with Silicon Valleyand Game of Thrones winning best comedy and drama series, respectively. Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton also took home acting awards for their work in the freshman drama Westworld.
Lead acting awards in comedy went to Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon and Atlanta's Donald Glover. McKinnon's frequent SNL scene partner, Alec Baldwin, was named best guest actor in a comedy series for his portrayal of Donald Trump.
Predictably, FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story continued its awards show dominance, winning best television movie or limited series as well as acting prizes for Sarah Paulson, Courtney B. Vance and Sterling K. Brown.
On the film side, La La Land is on a roll. The night before Damien Chazelle's musical picked up seven Golden Globe nominations - more than any other movie or series - it won the best picture prize at the Critics' Choice Awards.
The Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling picture went home with eight trophies in total including best director and best original screenplay, for which it tied with Kenneth Lonegran's Manchester by the Sea.
