Henney joins the fantasy adaptation as Lan
The sprawling cast list for Amazon's The Wheel of Time series has added another familiar face:Criminal Minds star Daniel Henney is joining the cast of the fantasy adaptation.
Amazon announced Wednesday that Henney will star in the series as al'Lan Mandragoran, also known as Lan, the lone remnant of the kingdom of Malkier who serves as a Warder (basically a vowed bodyguard) and is bonded (psychically linked) to several prominent female characters. The first of those intimate relationships is with Moiraine, who will be portrayed by series lead Rosamund Pike.
Lan is a man driven by a sense of duty and honor who is extremely skilled at swordsmanship, but who is also thoughtful and passionate beneath his tough exterior. His connection to Moiraine is established in Robert Jordan's New Spring, the prequel novel that may serve as the starting point for Amazon's series.

Based on Jordan's best-selling novels, The Wheel of Time is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.
The series will mark the first true adaptation of Jordan's high fantasy novels, following several previously failed efforts to give the series screen life. Showrunner Rafe Judkins is spearheading the show.
The Wheel of Time will also star Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, and Madeleine Madden.
