Chaz Bono asks to change name, gender
"She's a very smart girl — boy!" Cher said during an interview with Vanity Fair. "This is where I get into trouble. My pronouns are f---ed. I still don't remember to call her 'him.'"
Born as Chastity to Cher and Sonny Bono, Chaz changed his name after undergoing gender-reassignment surgery last year. He is currently a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights advocate and writer.
Despite the occasional slip-ups, the 64-year-old singer-actress says she is proud of how Chaz has dealt with his sex change. "If I woke up tomorrow in a guy's body, I would just kick and scream and cry and f---ing rob a bank, because I cannot see myself as anything but who I am — a girl," she said. "I would not take it as well as Chaz has. I couldn't imagine it."
Cher will soon make her return to the big screen alongside Christina Aguilera in Burlesque, which hits theaters on Thanksgiving.
