Céline Dion bid farewell to her husband René Angélil, who died last week after a long battle with throat cancer. Dion and her children paid their respects at Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica on Friday.

Angélil's son from a previous relationship, Patrick, paid homage to his father in French. He was followed by Dion's and Angélil's eldest son, 14-year old René-Charles, who remarked, "Dad, I promise you here that we are all going to live up to your standards."

While Dion did not speak at the funeral, she did write a message on the program at Angélil's public memorial on Thursday.

"I understand that my career was in a way his masterpiece, his song, his symphony. The idea of leaving it unfinished would have hurt him terribly," reads Dion said "I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him."

Next, a memorial will be held at Angélil's "home away from home" at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, where Dion has a residency performance, on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
