ABC reportedly has until the end of the day to decide whether or not to renewCastlefor a ninth season.
According to Deadline, star Nathan Fillion has closed a new deal for the potential new season. Now, it's just up to the network to decide whether or the May 16 finale will act as a series or season finale. Producers are prepared either way, having shot two possible endings for the episode.
Even if Castle does get renewed for what could possibly be a 13-episode ninth season, the Season 8 finale will be star Stana Katic's final episode. ABC decided not to ask Katic and co-star Tamala Jones to return due to budgetary reasons. However, Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas will both reportedly appear in a potential ninth season.

But do fans even want a ninth season without Katic? The onscreen relationship between Katic's and Fillion's characters, Beckett and Castle, has anchored the series since the pilot, inspiring a devoted fanbase of Caskett 'shippers. However, there have been reports that the two actors behind the beloved couple "despise" each other in real life, which may have played a part in Katic's exit.
