Netflix's long-awaited adaptation of Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? is almost here! The first Carmen Sandiego trailer slipped onto the Internet Friday like a thief in the night, and based on its hair-raising action and slick tone, this version looks poised to steal all the hearts.

As promised,Jane the Virgin's Gina Rodriguez voices Carmen, a spunky, self-assured criminal mastermind cutting her teeth working for the bad guy conglomerate V.I.L.E. Back when the Carmen video games taught geography, English and other subjects as Carmen pulled stunts all over the world, Carmen was painted as an enviable villain, but later iterations of the character, like on the PBS TV show of the '90s, showed Carmen with some more redeemable qualities.

With this origin story, Netflix's series pulls her a bit more closer to a moral center as Carmen becomes more of a Robin Hood-type who comes to see V.I.L.E.'s work as, well, vile. So she goes rogue, determined to use her thieving and scamming skills to stop V.I.L.E. from hurting others. Good pivot!

Carmen Sandiego begins streaming Friday, Jan. 18 on Netflix.
