Bones: Is There Another Wedding on the Way?

Booth and Brennan finally tied the knot on Bones' ninth season, but could another wedding be in the offing?
On Monday's episode (8/7c, Fox), Cam (Tamara Taylor) and Arastoo (Pej Vahdat) take their relationship to a new level when Arastoo arranges for Cam to meet his parents. Unfortunately for Cam, who has serious reservations about the dinner meeting, all of her worst fears come true when she sits down with Arastoo's extremely protective mother (guest star Shohreh Aghdashloo).

"I loved the portrayal of this overprotective Iranian mother, whom I'm very familiar with," Aghdashloo tells TVGuide.com with a laugh. "When I started talking to the director, I said, 'I know this woman inside out because I know Shohreh!' I was raised with an [overprotective mother] and I am one."However, Aghdashloo insists her character simply wants the best for her son. "The notion of family she believes in so very much," she says. "All she tries to do is keep the family together. She does have an inquisitive mind, especially when it comes to her children. She wants to know everything about her children. She's trying to make sure her son is dating a woman who will take care of him and love him to death. She keeps questioning and wants answers."And it doesn't take long before the questions become very personal. "Mrs. Vaziri does not shy away from [implying] Cam may not be the person I am looking for," Aghdashloo  says. "Cam having a child out of wedlock and being older than Arastoo does not fit the characteristics that Mrs. Vaziri is after."

Eventually, Arastoo takes the probing as a sign that his mother disapproves and storms out of dinner. However, Aghdashloo suggests that her character simply wants to get to know her possible daughter-in-law better. "Maybe if she had a couple of daughters, she wouldn't be as meticulous as she is," she says. "Because whoever is going to marry Arastoo is going to be her daughter — not just her daughter-in-law. Politely, in her own way, she lets Cam know she's not the kind of mother who would wish them well and walk away. She's going to stay in their lives and stay under her nose every now and then."Assuming the couple can make peace with the parents, is a wedding really on the table? "Arastoo and Cam's relationship has been terrific for us, and moving them along is something we wanted to do," executive producer Stephen Nathan says. "Nothing lights a fire under a relationship like a very, very strong mother-in-law. The marriage issue is a subconscious issue that rears its head at the end of the episode. Whether they follow through or not, we won't know until next season. It's definitely something in the works that they're going to have to contend with."Elsewhere in the episode, Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) must brace for the possibility of another major shift in their relationship as Booth receives some hints that he might be in line for a promotion that could take him far from home. But to Booth's great surprise, Brennan is encouraging Booth to pursue the opportunity.

"Brennan's very independent and both of them have been incredibly cognizant of each other's careers and lives," Nathan says. "Brennan is looking at this as a potential for a very new chapter in their lives. It just adds a nice deeper, richer flavor to this relationship. It shows how much support there is there for each other. And that's something that's definitely going to be required as we move into the season's final episodes."Bones airs Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.
