Could the story of the Millers continue?

Mark Stanley, Owen Cooper, and Stephen Graham, Adolescence
NetflixWithin days of its release, Netflix's affecting limited series Adolescence set the streaming world on fire.
Created by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, the series follows the story of Jamie (Owen Cooper), a 13-year-old teenager detained and dragged into a police station on charges of killing a female classmate. Amazingly, Adolescence unfolds across four episodes, each of which is one single take, continuously moving through each place touched by the investigation.
Immediately after its release, awards pundits and online commentators alike started forecasting the show's Emmy chances, specifically acknowledging the performances of Cooper and Graham, who also starred as Jamie's father. Despite the grim and deeply disturbing nature of the show, fans want more.
So just how limited of a series is Adolescence? It would hardly be the first supposedly closed-ended series to suddenly find a path forward after instantaneous success. Just look at The White Lotus and Big Little Lies.
More on Netflix:
But what would more Adolescence look like, and is it something being considered? Here's everything to know about Adolescence Season 2.
As of April 2025, there is no definitive answer as to whether Season 2 will happen. The tremendous success of the show has almost certainly inspired conversations within Netflix. But Graham told Variety it wasn't out of the realm of possibility, although he has not had any official discussions about it. "But yeah, there's a possibility of doing another installment," he told the trade.
While Graham and Thorne created the series together, they may be of two minds on whether it should continue. That being said, if Season 2 does materialize, don't expect it to continue the story of the Miller family. Thorne told ITV This Morning as much in March 2025.
"I think Jamie's story is finished," he said. "I don't think there is anywhere more we could take his story, so I don't think there is a Series 2."
One thing he does add is that they would be open to exploring the one-shot storytelling framework with other stories.
Some fans have suggested that a second season could focus on Katie's story. But Thorne also shuts down that possibility as well, at least in he and Graham's hands.
"I don't think we are the right people to tell Katie's story," Thorne told ITV. "I think there are other makers out there who could tell beautiful dramas about Katie, or girls like Katie, and those shows should be made."

Stephen Graham, Adolescence
NetflixWith no idea of what a second season would look like, nailing down who would star in it is an even harder task.
The series could go the route of shows like American Horror Story, with its cast taking on new roles in a new story each season. More similar to The White Lotus, it could also bring in new casts each season, with a few threads linking the stories as a shared universe.
With breakouts like Cooper (his first role ever!) and Graham making headlines for their work in the show, we would advise Netflix to lock them down now for any future installments.
Adolescence Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
