ABC Family Bringing 10 Things to the Small Screen

ABC Family is looking for more laughs, picking up two comedy pilots, including one based on the 1999 teen flick, 10 Things I Hate About You. ABC Family is looking for more laughs, picking up two comedy pilots, including one based on the 1999 teen flick, 10 Things I Hate About You.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gil Junger, the director of the film 10 Things — which introduced audiences to the late Heath Ledger — has signed on to direct the pilot. The series won't deviate too much from the feature, which itself was based on William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, following two polar-opposite sisters in high school.
Greek's Carter Covington will write and executive produce the single-camera show.
The network also greenlit Ruby and the Rockits, headlined by Spy Kids' Alexa Vega as Ruby. The multi-camera series revolves around an ex-teen idol (Patrick Cassidy) trying to live a normal life until his brother and former band member (David Cassidy) shows up unexpectedly with a teenage daughter.
The series comes courtesy of one-time teen idol, Shaun Cassidy, who will write with Ed Yeager. Ted Wass is tapped to direct.
Both comedies are scheduled to go into production this fall in L.A.
How do you feel about a small-screen 10 Things? Is it (almost) 10 years too late?
