Adolescence, The Pitt, The Studio, and The Last of Us also had good days

Adam Scott and Britt Lower, Severance
Apple TV+EGOT chasers, here's who has a chance of checking off that 'E' later this year. The 2025 Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday morning, so let the grievances begin! (Nathan Fielder and The Rehearsal, please file a police report because you were robbed in the major categories.)
It's no surprise that HBO stood out with the most nominations of any network on the backs of HBO and HBO Max series The Last of Us, The White Lotus, The Penguin, Hacks, and The Pitt, which were nominated for best series in the Drama (The Last of Us, The White Lotus, The Pitt), Limited Series (The Penguin), and Comedy (Hacks) categories. HBO received 142 nominations in total, the network's most ever. Two of those went to TV Guide favorite Somebody Somewhere, which finally earned its first Emmy nominations for its final season, including one for Jeff Hiller for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy. See? Good things can happen to good people. Just not that often.
The sound of popped champagne corks from Cupertino, Calif., came from Apple HQ, as Severance was the most-nominated series of the day, earning 27 nominations, including nods for Best Drama, Best Actor (Adam Scott), Best Actress (Britt Lower), and Supporting Actor/Actress (John Turturro, Zach Cherry, Patricia Arquette, and Tramell Tillman). Apple's The Studio also had a good day, with nominations for Best Comedy, Best Actor (Seth Rogen), Best Supporting Actor/Actress (Ike Barinholtz, Catherine O'Hara, and Kathryn Hahn), and, in the funniest thing to come out of the nominations today, Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, where Seth Rogen's rolodex earned five of the six nominations. Congratulations to Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard for their fiery performances.
Netflix's Adolescence was a breakthrough this year and was properly rewarded, with nominations for Best Limited or Anthology Series and Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series, for its young star, Owen Cooper. Netflix also made some noise with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Nobody Wants This, but was otherwise rather quiet for being the largest streamer in the world.
The 77th Primetime Emmy nominations were open to television series that aired from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, currently scheduled to air Sept. 14, 2025, on CBS and Paramount+.
