The Yellow Passport

Voice student Sonia Sokoloff, is the daughter of a wealthy Russian Jewish family. Fedia, an anti-Semitic police spy, infiltrates the house as the family valet and attempts to rape Sonia, who has him fired. In revenge, Fedia incites the Black Hundred, an anti-Semitic organization to which he belongs, to an attack on the Sokoloff house in which Sonia's parents are killed. Sonia is allowed to continue her music studies in Russia only by accepting a yellow passport, which marks her as a prostitute. Eventually she and her uncle, forced to leave the country when the police learn that she has accepted the passport under false premises, travel to America, meeting opera impresario Carl Rosenheimer and his son Adolph during the journey. Carl recognizes Sonia's talent and promotes her singing career in America, where she becomes a celebrity and Adolph's fiancee. Fedia, however, shows up in America and exposes the secret of Sonia's yellow passport. Adolph denounces her, but Akulena and Fiodor, Sonia's friends from Russia, come to America with papers that establish her innocence, and the lovers are reunited.
