In April 1978, almost 200 Greek immigrants are arrested on the spurious charge of attempting to defraud Australia's Department of Social Security. The scandal, later referred to as the "Greek Conspiracy Case," was perhaps the most egregious episode of institutionalized xenophobia yet witnessed in Australia.
