A personal advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations based in Vienna, Christopher Tauling fights against worsening chemical and bacteriological dangers. About to leave for a long month, he entrusts his young wife Patricia, nicknamed "Blondy", to their friend Mitta, an interpreter at an atomic conference who has a love affair with an Interpol agent named Barinoff. At a cocktail party, Patricia meets Albert Morhange, to whom she gives in, believing it will only be a one-night stand. However, the physical attraction pushes her to see him again and he draws her into a murky world of sensuality and violence. Panicked by her lover's brutality, Patricia calls her husband to ask him to cut short his trip. Suspecting his wife's infidelity, Tauling returns from Beirut immediately but is mysteriously poisoned. The police suspect Patricia.
