Babu (M.G.R.) is an estate owner and a hunter. He is forever in the forest, hunting animals, much to the annoyance of his mother. He meets Latha (Savitri), lost in the forest. He rescues her, and their friendship blossoms into love and marriage. In due course of time, Latha delivers a boy. The boy, Raja is extremely attached to his father. Meanwhile Plunderer Mayavan, desires Latha. To attain her, he makes Babu undergo untold miseries. He tricks Latha and Raja into the forest, and demands the papers of the estate. How Latha handles this situation - What is the fate of the child - How does the true identity of Mayavan reveal as the story progresses ?
