Newly-wed couple Richard and Kate Barry are forced by Kate’s father-in-law to take on a home help. This takes the form of an Italian named Maria. But she disgraces herself with a fleet of American sailors and has to leave. Following this the couple encounter all sorts of replacements, most of whom are highly unsuitable - from bank robbers to gin addicts and beyond.
