The in-laws aren't following Gramps' rules for the family cottage and George (Josh Peace) is cross as heck about it. At the insistence of his wife Annie (Liane Balaban), he sets off in his canoe to put back a few beers, catch some turtles and simmer down. Paddling through a thick fog, George lands on a mysterious island - an antiquated penal colony outside Canadian waters. There, he comes across an ominous machine run by a manic military Officer (Julian Richings) whose own devotion to the old rules make him seem like a kindred spirit. However, when the machine's demented true purpose is revealed, George is forced to rethink his stubborn ways. An absurd re-imagining of Kafka's 'In Der Strafkolonie', set up in cottage country.
