Today and Tomorrow

The scion of the count family, Pál succumbs to the temptation of the busy life in the capital and moves to Budapest. Soon he will be addicted to the card, paying off his debts with usury loans. His friend, Prince Kázmér, introduces him to the life of high society and introduces him to his beautiful young wife. The princess soon leaves her husband and moves in with Pál. The young man continues to play cards, gets involved in new debts and then counterfeits bills. The princess saves him, sacrificing her entire fortune, but when she sees that even this does not stop the man on the path of degradation, she breaks up with him. Pál sneaks into the usurer's apartment, strangles him and takes his money, then hides in the night. The stolen money soon runs out and Pál sinks deeper and deeper. On the other hand, we see him in suburban hideouts, seeking oblivion in drink. He goes to jail for fighting. Behind the gloomy walls, the shadows of the past float in front of him, he reflects on his ruined life, and when the prison gates open before him, he repentantly returns home to his mother on the abandoned country estate.
