The Way of Patience

The life of a Quaker maid with its many restrictions becomes irksome to Patience Worth and she runs away from her home in the country and sees the city for the first time. She is suddenly confronted with the necessity of earning a living and a chance meeting with Dolly Mason, a model, brings her in touch with Amos Thayer, an artist. Possessing no money she is compelled to take the work offered. Thayer's closest friend, Emerson Leonard, a novelist, becomes interested in her. He asks her to marry him, but she believes herself in love with Thayer. One night she goes to Leonard's home and declares that she will marry him. After she is frightened by impulsiveness and runs away, returning to her home. Meanwhile, Thayer tells Leonard the girl married him because she feared herself and that she loved him, Thayer. Leonard resolves to learn the truth from her and goes to her. He finds Patience in her garden awaiting him.
