Charles Lang (WILLIAM H. MACY), an engineer in a Chicago auto factory, has invented a water-powered internal combustion engine. Lang looks forward to the invention providing financial security for himself and his invalid sister Rita as well as benefit for society. But when he attempts to patent the invention he realises that powerful interests will do anything to prevent him.
