Vivian and Reece are in love but are separated through the conspiracy of Hank Mann, a disreputable lawyer, and Glen Cavender, the girl's guardian, who has been stealing money that rightfully belongs to her. At last she thinks that her sweetheart is untrue to her and she goes to ride with Mann, who has discovered the guardian's peculations. They stop at a blacksmith shop to have a shoe fixed and Vivian is entranced with the strength of the burly smith. After they depart her horse runs away and as it heads toward the stop Kennedy rushes out and rescues her. His conquest is soon complete and she goes away with a horseshoe nail bent around her finger by Tom. He is invited to a dinner in her home, and there his lack of breeding makes her realize her mistake. Meanwhile Reece, who had been imprisoned by the conspirators, is released during the fight which follows an attempt to eject Tom and his father. Polly, the blacksmith's former sweetheart, persuades him by force that he should return to her. Reece and Vivian are reunited and the conspirators confounded.
