Florence Varthy is found dead in her garage. Witnesses to her last few days are questioned to discover who wanted her dead. How did this woman, only daughter of well-known, brash businessman Jacques Varthy, end up like this? Florence and Eric wanted a baby, for themselves but also to satisfy Florence's father, who wanted a "Varthy and Sons" sign on his factory. But they couldn't have children, so resorted to another solution: finding a surrogate mother and pretending that Florence was pregnant. With the help of a gynecologist friend they hatched this plan, which was not only crazy but also illegal in France. All seemed to be going well until the baby was born.
