The Prescription

A medical society is to hold a banquet and just as the doctors are about tn leave the hospital a woman with a very sick child appears. One of the doctors attends the patient, but in his haste does not properly diagnose the case, giving the mother a wrong prescription. While returning from the banquet the head physician at the hospital noticed a woman walking the streets apparently in distress. He approached her and heard her sad story of her child's illness. He volunteered to go to the child and while making his examination discovered the prescription given the woman at the hospital. He gave a correct prescription and when the child had fully recovered requested the mother to bring it to the hospital. This was done and while they were there he called in all the physicians asking each in turn if they had prescribed for the child. One admitted he had and after a very severe rebuke the physician realized that duty in their profession should and would come before pleasure.
