The Interns Reviews

Love, romance, intrigue, dirty dealings, backstabbing, abortion--all the usual hospital soap opera elements are present here. This entry follows a group of four interns during their first year of practice at a big hospital. Little attention is paid to their medical work, of course; sex and romance provide the focus. Robertson is a serious-minded med student whose world changes when he meets a New York model (Parker) who wants an illegal abortion; MacArthur falls for nurse Powers, who doesn't want to marry a doctor; Callan is a professionally ambitious two-timer who carries on with socialite Helm and nurse Bard. Finally, there's Adams, in the stock role of the doctor in love with a dying patient. It's all good trashy fun, with a mildly feminist subplot involving Savalas, as a veteran doctor who believes it's a waste of time to educate women. Harareet shows him a thing of two, though. This film spawned a sequel, called THE NEW INTERNS, as well as a television series. Turk Murphy and His Jazz Orchestra perform "Bye and Bye."
