Young lawyer Jack Winter has a nice house built for his beloved. The next-door neighbors congratulate him on it. When his betrothed comes to inspect it, she doesn't like it; she throws Jack over and marries a wealthy suitor. This crushes Jack completely and he leaves town. Two years later a young girl, Katherine Wilson, visits the old people and hears the story of the deserted cottage. One day she gets into the house and manages to clean it thoroughly. A short time later, some tramps drop a match in the house that sets fire to it. Katherine sees the flames, and she and the old folks put out the fire. The old people send Jack a letter, telling him about the fire and the girl. He comes and finds the fair one cleaning the house. The two fall in love, marry, and settle into the cottage.
